Utmost & Ian Browns academy rider Seth Davey has kicked off his 2026 road season with a gritty ride at the Portsdown Classic on the tough roads around Portsmouth.
Racing for Guernsey Velo Club, Davey lined up against a strong senior and under-23 field on the hilly 72km circuit, known for its rolling terrain, sharp ramps and exposed sections that often turn the race into a war of attrition. He rode near the front of the main chase group for much of the race, helping to keep the pace high in the crosswinds as the race split under repeated climbs.
The effort of staying prominent began to bite in the closing kilometres, but Davey dug in to finish with his group and secure 50th place, less than a minute down on the top ten in what proved to be a highly selective early-season test. As one of the younger riders in the bunch, it was a result that underlined both his fitness and race nous, and offered a promising marker for the rest of his junior campaign this year.
