Guernsey Velo Club were back at the motocross track on Sunday for Round 3 of the
CycleWorld Cyclocross Series. Very different conditions from Round 2 meant a new
challenge for the field of 37 riders in the main race, as they battled across grass, mud, gravel
and tarmac on a new and well praised track layout.
Charlie Tourtel took an impressive victory in the CX category with a time of 51:17:916 with
Zach Smith sealing third place, both dominating their Youth CX categories with 100%
records at the halfway point of the series. Between them, debutant Dave Fairbrother took
second place after recovering from a spectacular crash on the first lap. In the Veterans,
Mark Naftel took the honours whilst rival Mark Smith completed the final lap on foot after a
mechanical failure saw him drop back through the field. With the top ten places evenly split
between Cyclocross and Mountain bikes, the new track layout provided entertaining racing
as riders tried to take advantage of the different surfaces.
John Mapley cruised to the Mountain bike category win after making his way through the
busy pack on Lap 1. Jamie Petit-Fulgoni continued a strong season as first female across the
line after a race long battle in amongst the Veterans all chasing a top ten finish. Esther Reid
made it three wins from three races in the Senior CX category, finishing ahead of Frankie
Middleton.
Jacob Piercey (Under 12) took victory ahead of Freddie Martel and Luka Robilliard in the first
race of the day, Hugo Johnson in 5 th place was first in the Under 10 category, with Erin Pipet

A few words from our Club President Alex Margison
“So proud of everyone this week, all of the riders put on an absolute show, the volunteers behind the scenes who just got on with the job of making it all possible; and everyone else on the cycling events team, especially Gary Wallbridge who made my job an absolute doddle. The medal table is a credit to all of you.”
